Job Description




The Trade Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring that the company's trade practices comply with local and international regulations. They collaborate with many departments, including, but not limited to Product Development and Management, Logistics, Purchasing, Legal and Safety. This role is responsible for developing, implementing and auditing all trade compliance-related policies and procedures. 



This is a highly dynamic role, balancing oversight of the export compliance process and minimizing risks to K&N Engineering, with long-term strategic direction to enhance business performance and profitability. The ideal candidate will promote and support a culture of compliance and adherence to global trade laws and regulations throughout the organization.


 


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
 


 



  • Develop, implement and maintain trade compliance policies and procedures that ensure K&N’s compliance with local and international trade regulations, and conduct training to educate cross-functional teams on these policies and procedures.

  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential compliance issues, communicate risks to management and develop strategies to mitigate non-compliance issues.

  • Maintain records and documentation related to trade compliance, such as licenses, permits, and certifications. Conduct regular audits to ensure that all documentation is up-to-date and accurate.

  • Manage export and import controls, including reviewing and approving export licenses and coordinating import compliance activities.

  • Support the filing of substitutionary duty drawback information to our freight forwarder.

  • Evaluate internal operational and procedural compliance for export and import.

  • Analyze and update existing compliance policies and related documentation and train relevant employees on these policies and procedures for export and import.

  • Apply for compliance certification and regulatory approval.

  • Responsible for managing communication and responses related to customs inquires and follow up.

  • Develop and maintain a compliance recordkeeping system.

  • Maintain supplier Certificates of Insurance and Endorsement records, as required for K&N’s insurance.

  • Submit Country of Origin (COO) Certificates in response to COO requests.






Qualifications




Experience, Skills & Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as international trade, business or law. Advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., Licensed Customs Broker, Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Certified Export Specialist (CES) is a plus.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in trade/export compliance or a related field, ideally in the Manufacturing industry.

  • Experience creating and maintain export compliance policies and procedures and monitoring adherence to the processes.

  • Understanding of export control regimes in the EU and Asia, including the various sanctions currently in place against Russia.

  • Proficiency in customs and compliance management software, such as OneSource and CargoX.

  • Knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification system and other compliance requirements and standards.

  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communicate skills to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

  • Must be able to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

  • Work both independently and collaboratively, as well as under pressure, in handling multiple competing priorities simultaneously.

  • Must have a continuous improvement mindset and monitor the effectiveness of customs compliance programs and initiatives and propose improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of K&N’s compliance practices.

  • Experience in the automotive aftermarket and/or global filtration industries, preferred.
