Job Description
The Sr. Electrical / Electronics Engineer is responsible for specification, development, and validation of the computer system and display screens for the integrated digital cockpit for future Karma Automotive vehicles. These components lead Karma’s advanced software-defined vehicle (SDV) technology innovations and strategies. The DRE is responsible for the design, packaging, and execution of the CIC devices into future Karma models and overseeing the system’s features and software. This role will involve supplier management and technical direction over other engineers and extended team personnel.
Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):
Tasks:
- Develop, document, and manage feature content roadmap, implementation, and product requirements.
- Personally responsible and accountable for major analytical and planning assignments.
- Manage multiple simultaneous complex projects and programs.
- Identify problems, recommend solutions, and negotiate and execute contingency plans.
- Manage, direct, and lead problem resolution and tracking / reporting process.
- Direct engineers and outside companies engaged in program and project work.
- Communicate directly with management and cross-functional leaders as required.
- Work with extended team to develop consensus, balanced, and win-win situations.
- Evaluate and recommend options consistent with industry best practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, evaluate, compare, and source suppliers for all components.
- Release the product into Karma’s release system, including CAD models, drawings, and part details.
- Develop DFMEA (Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis) for recording potential failure modes and planned corrective actions.
- Develop DVP&R incorporating all external, customer-specific, and internal functional and performance requirements, while maximizing subassembly design re-use and tool re-use.
- Execute DVP&R, assist with test setup and fixturing, identify external testing resources, and manage testing through completion.
- Develop bill-of-materials, parts drawings, specifications, and assembly instructions.
- Work with engineers and technicians to design and build robust prototypes.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (or an equivalent degree) in Electrical/Computer/Mechanical/Industrial/Systems Engineering or a related field of study
- 5 or more years of demonstrated progressive responsibility and hands-on experience with vehicle ECUs, system architectures, and control systems
- Knowledge of microprocessors, automotive ECUs, electrical hardware, and embedded software.
- Knowledge of automotive vehicle mechanical and electrical system architectures.
- Knowledge of systems engineering principles and hardware and software design concepts.
- Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (e.g., CAN).
- Proven record of interpreting requirements from design to production.
- Knowledge and execution of requirement management tools (e.g., Polarion, DOORS, Integrity).
- Knowledge and execution of software quality and processes (CMMI, Automotive SPICE).
- Knowledge and execution of review and release of functional safety content.
- Knowledge and execution of review with change management.
- Knowledge of automotive computer-aided design tools (e.g., CATIA, AutoCAD, etc.).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience with a bug tracking system (e.g., Jira).
- MS Office experience (i.e., Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint).
Preferred Qualifications (in addition to the required)
- Master’s degree or PhD in a related field of study.
- 8 or more years of relevant experience in the automotive industry.
- Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015), as applicable.

Compensation:
$120,000 - 155,000 /annual salary. Compensation will vary DOE.
At Karma, our base pay is one part of our total rewards package.
Compensation offered may vary on multiple factors, including market location, education, skills and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position being offered.
