Job Description
As a Regulatory Compliance Specialist, you will be responsible for collaborating with leaders across the business to provide valued strategic support of business initiatives. This involves building strong relationships throughout the organization and finding opportunities to educate the Company on what compliance is and why it’s important to our collective success. You will be responsible for providing various forms of regulatory compliance support, including legal research, regulatory change management, compliance issue resolution, complaint response, audit and market conduct exam support, and enterprise project support.
This position will play an integral role in the regulatory compliance program for Hagerty, ensuring that Hagerty promotes an organizational culture that encourages ethical business conduct and a commitment to compliance with the law, resulting in a positive image to associates, customers, vendors, and the community. You will also ensure that sufficient internal policies and controls, reasonably capable of reducing the likelihood of improper conduct, are in place.

What you’ll do
- Collaborate and help develop a global regulatory compliance team that is viewed as a well-regarded and highly valued strategic partner to the Organization.
- Interact positively, professionally, and effectively through verbal and written communication with all professional contacts, both internal and external.
- Always act with a view to the Company’s long-term strategic goals.
- Perform research on regulatory questions and issues and provide direction to applicable areas of the Business.
- Provide valued and timely support to the Claims, Product, Underwriting, and Compliance teams, and other areas of the Business, as needed.
- Review consumer complaints, review draft responses, research applicable requirements, and track the status of complaints to ensure complete and timely response.
- Investigate and resolve compliance issues; Provide documentation and solution drafts per quality and timing requirements.
- Communicate regulatory changes to applicable teams and oversee required changes to systems and processes.
- Provide support to senior department staff with creation of presentations, spreadsheets, reports, and/or memos.
- Provide support on external audits and market conduct exams, delivering complete and timely responses.
- Work with the Legal and Compliance team to develop and implement internal controls, policies, and procedures to educate, train, and support business teams.
- Work on recurring tasks with some deviation from standard practices to deliver on day-to-day objectives that contribute to specific team results.
- Complete projects per timing and quality requirements (e.g., company-wide communications, legal charts and tables, policies and procedures, training materials).
- Maintain overall general knowledge of insurance industry and Hagerty’s business operations, policies, and procedures.
- Work closely with teams across the Organization on various enterprise initiatives and regulatory compliance projects, as needed and required.
- Manage, prioritize, and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.
- Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of information, protect the assets of the Company, act ethically and with integrity, and adhere to Hagerty’s Code of Conduct and policies and procedures.
This might describe you
- Proven and relevant regulatory or insurance compliance work experience.
- Strong analytical, research, and organization skills.
- Strong understanding of relation between insurer, agent, insured, insurance laws/regulations, licensing requirements, and structure of insurance companies and MGAs.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with diverse personalities and skill sets.
- Ability to effectively interact with individuals in resolving insurance and regulatory complaints.
- Organization and prioritization skills.
- Understand and apply company mission statement and core values.
- Able to work independently.
- Dedicated to continuous learning of insurance, regulatory, and compliance (i.e., seeking to obtain a certification).
- Experience with insurance compliance online research websites (Westlaw and Oden) and other legal search providers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Possess a supportive and responsive manner.
- Excellent ability to exercise independent judgment and the ability to work with minimal direction.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work under deadlines.
- Proficient at using Microsoft business products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Over and above
- College degree or paralegal certificate.
- Experience with relationship-building and negotiation.
Other things to note
- This position can be worked as remote position within the United States.
- Familiarity with public company requirements, including Sarbanes Oxley and key regulations, if applicable. For SOX compliant roles, responsible for designing, executing, and documenting internal controls where they have been identified as owners to prevent errors in financial reporting, processes, and business operations. Including attestation to the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of all financial reporting data, where applicable.
