About the position:
Our Big Prairie manufacturing facility is seeking to add a Quality Engineer to our growing team! The Quality Engineer will coordinate and expedite the flow of work and materials within or between departments according to the sales/shipping schedule. This position will report directly to the Quality Manager and work in a manufacturing environment.
Main responsibilities:
- Assist Quality Manager in establishing, implementing, and maintaining the quality management system.
- Create and maintain company quality documentation, such as procedures, work instructions and forms.
- Apply (PPAP) production part approval process for all sourced components. The Quality Engineer or delegate is responsible for accumulating the work collateral from all disciplines, prepares the PPAP submission and submits the PPAP to the “customer” or the Dometic Receiving Segment. Submission is typically done electronically but, in some cases, the “customer” or the Dometic Receiving Segment may require a paper submission.
- Oversees the maintenance of the calibration system for all gauges/tools/instruments used for product or process verification.
- Develops control plans / process flow plans and inspection/test methods.
- Manages and maintains the company’s first article inspection process and associated records.
- Ensures timely resolution of supplier corrective and preventive actions.
- Leads all MRB activities and oversees the handling and disposition of nonconforming materials.
- Support product development, improvement, and quality planning activities to ensure the transfer to production is in accordance with approved standards/specifications.
- Responsible to drive continuous improvement activities to enhance the quality management system, such as 5S, poka-yoke, lean, etc.
- Participate as a lead auditor during internal quality system audits.
- Troubleshoot quality problems identified by customers, production, customer service and management, and take appropriate actions to identify and eliminate the root cause.
- Collect and publish several types of data (FPY, internal scrap, supplier PPM, etc. for the purpose of problem identification, trend analysis and quality improvement initiatives.
- Responsible for the establishment and maintenance of appropriate records and databases for quality assurance.
- Responsible for issuing Supplier (8D) corrective actions / Internal corrective actions.
Product Testing
- Perform product testing including front load, life cycle, hold/flood, and rim wash.
- Complete fit, form, and function reports.
- Perform all other duties as needed, assigned, or directed for business efficiency.
To be successful in this role, we believe that you possess the following skills, competencies & characteristics:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field with 2 years quality engineering experience or ASQ certified CQE or 5-7 years of experience as a quality engineer in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with ISO 9001 quality system standard.
- Advanced blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
- Previous background in manufacturing or warehousing environment required.
- Must possess solid analytical skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations under stress.
- Computer literacy applied to scheduling and data management. Microsoft Excel required.
- Strong interpersonal skills requiring the ability to resolve conflicting interests and obtain cooperation.
- Leadership skills to coordinate and lead quality improvement efforts.
- Work in a group environment.
- Advanced Excel knowledge preferred.
- ERP system experience preferred.
