Job Title: Intellectual Property Enforcement Specialist.
Location: San Marcos, CA.
Department: Legal, Compliance.
Reports To: General Manager.

Job Summary:
We are looking for a sharp, proactive Intellectual Property (IP) Enforcement Specialist with a strong understanding of the aftermarket automotive industry to join our team. This role is responsible for identifying, monitoring, and enforcing our intellectual property rights including trademarks, design patents, and copyrights against infringing and counterfeit products across online marketplaces, unauthorized dealers, and international distribution channels. You will also play a strategic role in supporting new product development by anticipating IP risks, identifying protection opportunities, and ensuring IP integrity before and after product launch.

Key Responsibilities:
IP Enforcement & Monitoring:

  • Monitor online and offline platforms (e.g., eBay Motors, Amazon, Alibaba, niche reseller sites, and forums) for counterfeit, infringing, or unauthorized use of our branded products.

  • Investigate infringing listings or sellers, especially those offering imitation parts, replica designs, or improperly branded components.

  • Initiate enforcement actions including takedown notices, cease and desist letters, and DMCA requests; support escalations involving outside counsel or law enforcement as needed.

  • Coordinate with customs and border protection agencies to prevent the import of counterfeit or grey market goods.

  • Maintain tracking systems to document enforcement actions, case outcomes, and recurring infringement activity.

Proactive IP Protection in Product Development:

  • Partner with product development, engineering, and marketing teams early in the product lifecycle to identify IP that may require protection (e.g., logos, product names, packaging designs, proprietary features).

  • Conduct pre-launch audits to assess risk of infringement, counterfeit vulnerability, and competitive IP conflicts.

  • Coordinate trademark clearance searches and assist in preparing trademark applications, design patent filings, or copyright protections in collaboration with internal or external legal resources.

  • Monitor competitor filings and similar product releases to anticipate infringement or conflicts.

  • Educate cross-functional teams on IP best practices and red flags during product development and launch phases.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a liaison between Legal, Product, Marketing, and Sales to align enforcement strategies with business priorities.

  • Support brand guidelines and correct usage of IP across internal and external channels.

  • Work with external enforcement vendors, IP attorneys, and brand protection consultants to amplify reach and impact.

Qualifications:

  • 2–5 years of experience in IP enforcement, brand protection, product compliance, or related field within the automotive aftermarket or manufacturing sectors.

  • Knowledge of trademark, design patent, and copyright law especially as applied to physical products.

  • Experience supporting or collaborating with product development teams on IP-related matters.

  • Familiarity with major online marketplaces and digital enforcement processes.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with attention to detail in technical or product-oriented settings.

Preferred Skills:

  • Technical knowledge of aftermarket automotive parts and typical product development workflows.

  • Experience with IP search tools, brand monitoring software, or enforcement platforms.

  • Familiarity with international enforcement and customs regulations in key regions.

  • Ability to read technical drawings, CAD files, or product specifications.
