Duties & Responsibilities:
- Design and develop new high-power analog and digital LED and power control circuit boards for Baja Designs and sPOD products
- Use LTSpice for pre- and post-design analysis
- Maintain lifecycle of current designs – monitoring component end of life, evaluating component alternates, and determining product specifications
- Live circuit testing and debugging
- Perform maintenance of accurate and organized BOMs
- Collaborate with the firmware, thermal, optical, and mechanical engineers on present and future designs
- Provide clear information to the Engineering and Product Development team regarding electrical product and component tests, status of 3rd party electrical designs, electro-mechanical design interfacing, and firmware-application-hardware interfacing
- Understand and apply basic heat transfer and thermal property practices of metals and PCB constructions
- Evaluate and test theoretical LED quantifications through real-world testing
- Perform physical assembly creation for in-house prototyping
- Work with contract manufacturers and the purchasing team to identify alternate components to prevent supply chain disruption
- Work with and train the Production team on new product designs
- Design and maintain PCB testing and MCU programming fixtures
- Maintain test specifications and procedures for all circuit board designs
- Provide the Product Development team with accurate timelines and lists of deliverables for electrical designs to maintain product launch schedules
- Keep up with electronic advancements and look at ways to implement them into current and future designs
- Work with Customer Support, Sales, and Warranties departments to troubleshoot customer issues and use feedback to improve future Baja Designs and sPOD products
- Coordinate the schedule and deliverables of 3rd party partners to increase product output
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Background in lighting and/or automotive electronics design
- Some travel is required (~10%) to meet with clients, suppliers, trade shows, and industry events
- Willingness to occasionally work flexible hours (testing lights at night, supporting other departments, industry events/shows, meeting deadlines, etc.) (~10%)
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field
- 5+ years of experience in PCB and PCBA design and layout. Experience must be current and relevant to the job description
- 3+ years in circuit analysis through simulation using LTSpice
- 3+ years of experience in designing low-voltage analog designs
- 3+ years of experience in digital design
- 3+ years of Altium Schematic Capture and PCB Design
- 2+ years in PCB Manufacturing and CM Coaching experience
- Be able to design with an understanding of the relationship between hardware and firmware
- Excellent attention to detail and precision
- Exceptional diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- Ability to adapt to file structure and maintain file organization with revision changes
- Ability to communicate electrical concepts and design decisions to non-electrical engineers
- 4+ layer PCB Design Experience (preferred)
- Embedded hardware and PCB design experience (preferred)
- Pspice simulation analysis (preferred)
- Altium simulation analysis (preferred)
- CID (Certified Interconnect Designer) and or CID+ certifications (preferred)
- C++, C experience (preferred)
Pay Range:
$90,000 - $110,000/year, depending on qualifications
