Job Description
The Product Development Engineer is a working member of the K&N Product Development team. The job involves working in many aspects of K&N’s Research and Development and therefore requires a thorough understanding of K&N Engineering's manufacturing techniques, must possess excellent mechanical and fabrication knowledge, computer skills, communication skills, organizational skills, excellent project completion record and the ability to work unsupervised.
- Responsible for K&N product designs (mostly air filter products, intake kits, accessories, etc.) that are highly functional, cost efficient, with a constant effort being put into designs that reflect an “ease” of manufacturing.
- Work very closely with the Director of Automotive Development on feasibility and priority of projects.
- Work closely with the Product Managers and Intake Kit Technicians on specific designs, and attributes of projects that you are assigned. Must have very open communication with them.
- Must know the proper procedures for accurate and intelligent product testing and validation.
- Prepare and present formal test reports, which evaluate the potential of new technologies, where applicable.
Qualifications
Experience, Skills & Education:
- 0-3 years of experience in automotive. Must know the theories and workings of automobile engine compartments and how induction systems are designed for all types of motorized vehicles.
- Navigation K&N’s Business Management System
- Experience with SolidWorks 3-D CAD software required.
- Must have experience designing fabricated and molded products in 3D Cad programs.
- Must have experience detailing 2D product drawings at OE levels (ASME Y14.5-2009).
- Must know and understand basic principles used in product design, machining, multiple methods of manufacturing, mold design, prototyping (fabricated or rapid prototyped) and testing/validation.
- Must be able to create and maintain excel spreadsheets and data bases, which means knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
