Job Description
The Human Resources (HR) Director will be responsible for overseeing and directing all HR functions for an organization with 500 personnel, ensuring alignment with business objectives and long-term strategic goals. This position will lead HR processes and initiatives related to employee acquisition and termination, compliance, compensation, and benefits as well as oversee the payroll function. The HR Director will serve as a key advisor to the executive team, fostering a positive organizational culture, driving development and engagement.

With more than a fifty-year history, the Company recently completed a major acquisition and is a leading retailer in the automotive aftermarket. Given the organizational expansion, this role is a new position for the Company. The Company operates 50+ retail/service locations under two brand identities across nine states.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure HR programs and practices reflect the company's values, culture, and business needs as well as ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal employee and payroll regulations.
- Develop and manage compensation structures to ensure a highly productive workforce under direction of the executive management team.
- Be responsible for all company practices related to the employee lifecycle – from talent acquisition through employee development to employee departure.
- Oversee all benefits programs, ensuring they meet the needs of employees and align with industry standards and cost competitiveness.
- Address employee relations issues promptly and professionally, fostering a fair and respectful workplace and minimizing risk to the company.
- Manage all HR and payroll personnel, providing leadership, mentorship, and guidance.
- Lead continued improvement in the Company’s HR information systems platform
- In concert with Operations management, implement employee development and training programs to enhance skills, leadership, and career growth opportunities.
- Partner with executive management on organizational development initiatives to improve business processes, team performance, and employee satisfaction.
This role reports to the Company’s Chief Financial Officer.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of HR experience with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or HR certification (SPHR, SHRM-SCP) preferred.
- Substantial experience and expertise in managing compliance issues across a multi-state organization; advanced knowledge of employment and compensation laws and best practices in HR management
- Demonstrated experience in developing commission and compensation plans for sales and services personnel.
- Experience in managing benefit programs including the vetting, negotiation and ongoing oversight of insurance and 401(k) programs.
- Experience in leading HR and payroll teams and managing complex, high-impact HR functions and developing team members to become more effective and broaden their scope of responsibility.
- Prior experience in managing complex employee situations including liaison with legal counsel.
- Experience in oversight and ongoing improvement of HR information systems.
- Proficiency in data and quantitative analysis in support of the HR and payroll functions.
- Excellent interpersonal and superb communication skills – both verbal and written. Ability to influence and build relationships at all organizational levels.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to translate business needs into HR strategies.
