Job Description
The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer (AME) will be responsible for designing new process and manufacturing lines for current and future production and will oversee and manage projects with Karma’s contract manufacturing partners. The AME Engineer develops, implements and performs continuous improvement of world class automotive processes based on inputs from Design Engineering and drives product improvement through Design for Manufacturing Practices and Kaizen.
Responsibilities (included, but are not limited to):
- Works closely with Business Development and Finance Teams to submit competitive estimates and process proposals based on technical analysis from clients RFQ’s.
- Responsible for the overall technical relationship and deliver the process lines/stations to production.
- Develops and manages engineering pilot runs, product testing and qualification, and new product introductions.
- Works closely with Design Release Engineers (DREs) to coordinate and lead DFM activities for New and modified Products, providing early feedback based on best manufacturing practices.
- Leads cost improvement through DFM and Kaizen.
- Coordinates Engineering Changes and their implementation.
- Provides guidance and feedback on GD&Ts and datum strategies. Included variation analysis.
- Generates requests for quotations (RFQs) for new equipment & tooling.
- Coordinates clarifications with potential equipment/tooling suppliers to ensure the project scope is clear and achievable.
- Creates and monitors equipment installation schedules and delivers projects per the program timing.
- Estimates project budgets and delivers per the approved investment amount.
- Provides guidance and feedback for joining, painting and assembling technologies.
- Coordinates tests for new technologies and methods.
- Develops new manufacturing methods, project plans for major projects, cost and timing estimates.
- Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
- Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future and current requirements.
- Provides technical support for Body, Paint and General Assembly operations.
- Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special service, ensures a high level of overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Creates process documentation including layouts, standard operating procedures, process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, and control plans based on known DFMEA and Process definitions.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related Engineering or science field such as Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering, or Physics.
- Experience working and establishing Contract Manufacturing projects is strongly desired.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the automotive industry.
- Must have experience with automotive assembly equipment, tooling and manufacturing processes.
- CAD Experience Medium to High: Catia V5, AutoCAD, Desired: Polyworks, Verisurf.
- Experience in Automotive Joining, Painting and Assembling Methods, process and constraints.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as a keen attention to detail.
- Project management, leadership and teamwork skills.
- Language Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
- Early Vehicle Project Stages experience is desired.
- Experience in Body Accuracy (Automotive) and GD&T is desired.
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015), as applicable.
- Certifications favored include Professional Engineer License (P.Eng), Certified Professional Engineer (PE), Six Sigma qualifications and Project Management Professional (PMP).

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing their job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will spend approximately 20% (excluding breaks and meal periods) of time in an office environment and 80% of the time in the facility. When working in the facility, it requires the use of personal protective equipment, including (but not limited to) steel toe shoes, bump caps, safety goggles, and reflective colored vest.

Compensation:
$105,000 - $135,000 /annual salary. Compensation will vary DOE.
At Karma, our base pay is one part of our total rewards package.
Compensation offered may vary on multiple factors, including market location, education, skills and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position being offered.
